Giveaway Sponsor Spotlight: GemSprouts, from Etsy
What are Gem Sprouts?
Gem Sprouts are real living plants growing inside tiny recycled bottles, and are available for purchase on Etsy. For each GemSprout purchased, a donation is made to Conservation International.
Can you tell us a little bit about your Etsy store?
I absolutely love Etsy and decided that it would be the best place to sell our GemSprouts. All of our plants are grown locally in Central Florida, which is why we feature more warm weather plants such as cacti and succulents. Currently, we have 6 different plants and 4 different bottle styles, so there is always something for everyone, and they make wonderful gifts.
How did you came up with the idea for Gem Sprouts?
I started seeing tons of adorable jar necklaces popping up all over the internet, and couldn't resist trying to make them. At first, I failed miserably at almost every attempt. But, after much trial and error, I finally found the perfect combination of growing mediums, hearty and hard to kill plants, and a company that was willing to create the capsules for me.
It took me over a year to get everything I needed to start Gem Sprouts. Then I started selling them at craft fares and festivals around the East Coast. Once I started selling them, I decided that I didn't just want to make cute plant jewelry — I also wanted to make a difference, which is why I started donating a portion of the sales to the Billion Tree Fund.
What do you love most about selling on Etsy?
The people! Everyone at Etsy has been so kind and welcoming, and I love receiving messages and emails from all the great people who stop by to say "Hi".
Where can we find you?
You can find us online at GemSprouts.com, at our Etsy store, or on Twitter @GemSprouts.
