It’s no secret that children produce a ton of artwork. The challenge for me is finding a neat and orderly way to display it. When I saw this art cable at Pottery Barn Kids, I fell in love with it. It is so easy to swap artwork in and out, so easy the kids can hang their art themselves. It is perfect, except…
I really didn’t want to shell out the bucks. Now that the kids are out of school, I knew that money would be better spent on art supplies, bubbles and the ice cream man. Dilemma. I got the thought in my head, that I might (and that’s a small might) be able to make my own.
I headed over to my local craft store and wandered into the jewelry making aisle. I quickly found a few simple materials that would allow me to create an art cable for my children’s little masterpieces!
DIY CHILDREN’S ART CABLE
Materials:
- 1 package jewelry wire
- 1 package beading clips
- 2 small craft nails
- hammer
- artwork
Directions:
Step 1: Decide where you want your artwork to hang, ad how low you want your line to drop. I wanted my cable to go straight across the wall without drooping. Approximate the length of the wire, giving an extra inch on each end.
Step 2: Hammer a craft nail a 1/4 inch into the wall at each spot that the cable will hang from. Wrap the wire around one nail about 6 times around pull taut to the other end. Wrap the end of the wire around the nail 6 times and hammer into the wall. Return to first nail and hammer the rest of the way into the wall.
Step 3: Take the bead clips and hang your children’s artwork. Or let them hang it!
