Every fall, we go apple picking. And every fall, we end up with a peck of apples to get creative with. In the past, I’ve made Apple Jam, Apple Bread, Dutch Babies – the list goes on and on.

On Long Island, September is ideal apple picking time. As soon as school is back in session, we get out our calendars and fill up our Saturdays with all of our favorite fall activities.

Over the years, we’ve learned (the hard way) that if you wait until October to go apple picking on Long Island, you may just find yourself empty handed. My super easy Pulled Pork with Tangy Coleslaw can be tossed into the crockpot in minutes and is a major crowd pleaser. The tangy coleslaw is the perfect topper for this sweet & hearty pulled pork sandwich!

In our neck of the woods, school doesn’t until after Labor Day, so our kids were still enjoying their summer vacation today – even though most kids have already gone back to school! But while they’ve been playing all day, my sister and I were in full-on “Oh My God – School Starts Tomorrow And Where On Earth Did The Summer Go?” mode. Now that my babies children are getting older, I have been involving them in the kitchen a lot more. When they were little, I would let them stir and mix, but usually they just had a lot of fun making messes. Now at 4 and 5, (very soon to be 5 and 6), I want them to actually help in the kitchen.
