I don't actually remember what I was doing when this nightmare occurred. However, Abbey is only a year old here, so I know I wasn't too far away. Perhaps, I was folding laundry in the adjacent room? Or, maybe I was getting them some milk bottles? Or, possibly I had to let the dogs out. Regardless of where I was, or what I was doing, I do recall that this disaster happened in mere seconds…ok, maybe a minute or two, but you get the idea.
When I got back from whatever I was doing, I saw that Tyler had left his sister’s side. Yes, I had stuck her in the laundry basket for safe keeping, but I was only gone for a few seconds! Plus, she was crawling by then and could have gotten herself into a lot of trouble just like her brother!
So, by the time I realized that he had been way too quiet, for way too long, it was way too late. You see, my son had recently become very interested in the changing table, and all of the goodies that lined its shelves. I had to repeatedly ask him not to climb up there by himself, but boys will be boys (or so I am told), and he decided to help himself to an assortment of products.
The lesson I learned that day…is that children can create a holy mess in a matter of seconds! And, it always takes longer to clean the mess than to create the mess!
