Every once in awhile my kids seem to get together and boycott certain foods. Sometimes it is a flat out "No, we aren't eating that!", other times it is very subtle and I don't pick up on it right away. The subtle type of boycott is the one that annoys me the most.
I think they just had a "closed door meeting" about banning bananas and forgot to tell me about it. I just keep buying bananas and haven't picked up on the fact that no one is eating them. Now, I am up to my ears in bananas and have two bunches of bananas to consume before they go bad.
Luckily, the Martha Stewart site has a recipe for everything, including a Banana-Nutmeg Smoothie recipe. I think it's probably a bit better for me than making 10 loaves of banana bread this week.
Ingredients:
3 bananas, ripe but firm, broken into pieces
1/2 cup whole milk
1 cup low-fat vanilla yogurt
1 cup ice cubes
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Step 1:
In a blender, combine bananas, broken into pieces, with milk, and puree until smooth.
Step 2:
Add yogurt, ice cubes, and nutmeg to the fruit mixture; blend until the ice is finely crushed and the drink is frothy. Serve immediately.
Step 3:
Sprinkle with a pinch of nutmeg.
