This post is about the new American Craft® Sausages from Hillshire Farm. This post is part of the #StartYourGrill #AmericanCraft Sausage #shop hosted by #CollectiveBias and its advertiser. All opinions are my own. ~ Are you without a kitchen? This post can help – Grilling Recipes: American Craft® Sausage; perfect for grilling this summer. We grill several different flavors at once and serve them with a fresh salad and toppings bar. ~
My husband and I have been anxiously awaiting the demolition of our kitchen since the day we bought our house…6 years ago. We live in a quirky Tudor that we adore, but our kitchen is a hot mess. So when it finally came time for us to start our kitchen project, we knew that timing would be everything. With two young (hungry) kids, we would have to have an alternative cooking source if we didn’t want to be eating take out each night. After many late night conversations, we decided that the beginning of the summer would be the best time for our family to live through the renovation. This way, our grill would be gassed up and ready to go for all sorts of grilling recipes.
Being a planner, I started compiling all of my family’s favorite grilling recipes. I knew that we would be without a kitchen for at least 3 weeks, so I made sure I had lots of family-friendly options. In the beginning my list seemed endless. I had hamburgers and hot dogs, roast chicken and fish, and even grilled pineapple and pancakes! We could eat outside for weeks!
But now, 6 weeks later, we still have not seen the light at the end of the tunnel and my list has been exhausted. As you can imagine, my family is going a bit bonkers with the delays, and even though we’re very excited about how our kitchen is shaping up, we learned a very important lesson: whatever the time frame is guesstimated at – double it!
After getting lots of eyeball rolls from my kids (ahem, and my husband), when I mentioned the idea of yet another hamburger or hotdog for dinner, I knew that I would have to find them something else to eat. So when I went to the grocery store this past weekend and spied a display of Hillshire Farm’s American Craft Sausage®, I was pretty ecstatic.
Upon closer inspection, I saw that they had two varieties that my family would enjoy Jalepeño & Cheddar and Garlic & Onion, so I grabbed a package of each and tossed them in my cart. I was pretty excited because I knew we hadn’t tried this yet and my head started spinning with all of the possibilities.
To keep things fun, I decided that I would set up a Toppings Bar for everyone and cook up both packages of sausages. This way, everyone could try the different flavors and dress them however they saw fit. I skipped through Stop & Shop grabbing avocados, black beans, peppers, onions, corn, tomatoes – and even pineapple. Dinner was going to be amazing – I could feel it!
As I read the ingredients on the package, I was happy also pretty pleased with what I saw. Hillshire Farm’s American Craft® Sausage have a lot to offer: they’re hand crafted to deliver exceptional flavor, they’re made of 100% pork, and they’re also nitrate-free, nitrite-free, and MSG-free!
GRILLED SAUSAGES & TOPPINGS BAR
Ingredients:
- Hillshire Farm’s American Craft® Sausage
- Toppings: avocados, black beans, peppers, onions, corn, tomatoes – and even pineapple.
- Side Salad: Baby Spinach, Tomatoes, Fresh Mozzarella, Basil, Balsamic Vinegar, Olive Oil, Sea Salt & Pepper
- Fresh Green Beans
Directions:
Step 1: Chop up all of your toppings and organize them into separate bowls. If you want to saute any toppings first (like peppers and onions), go for it!
Step 2: Using an old saucepan, cook your green beans until they are just the way you like them. In our household, the kids won’t go near them until they are super, super soft. Note: It takes forever to boil water on the grill, so start your green beans early!
Step 3: Cook your sausages on the grill according to the package directions.
Step 4: Assemble your side salad. We don’t have a kitchen, so that means we can’t measure anything properly, so we just slapped it all together on the patio table.
Step 5: Call your family to the table and have fun!
