This holiday season I was invited to my first ever Cookie Exchange Party. When I received the invitation, I couldn’t contain my excitement! I felt really fortunate to have a friend in my life that was brilliant enough to combine two of my favorite things. Cookies and a party? Basically, I was going to a party where I was expected to eat cookies…and a lot of them. Merry Christmas to me!
Seriously though, what better way to ensure your guests have a great time? (I think you would be hard pressed to find an adult that doesn’t like cookies.) We would be spending our evening trying out new cookies recipes, talking about cookies and ultimately bringing home a hefty stash of cookies to enjoy later!
As I pondered the perfect cookie to bake, my sister’s Chocolate Crinkles Cookie Recipe immediately came to mind. Not only do these cookies have an adorable name, but they are easy to make! Even a cookie baking novice can pull off this recipe — after all, they’re supposed to crack! After they are coated with confectioners sugar, they crack and crinkle in the oven. In my opinion, these little black and white cookies are the perfect cookie for a holiday party.
When it came to gathering all of my baking supplies, I headed off to Big Lots. They have an impressive selection of high-quality ingredients and cookware for all of my baking endeavors. Their prices are hard to beat and my local store carries all of my favorite brands, including Bob’s Red Mill! I love that I can easily grab whatever I need all in one convenient location. From the cute decorative boxes that I’ll be packing my cookies in to all of my favorite baking ingredients, I can take care of all of my shopping needs at once. (Styles and assortment vary by store.)
CHOCOLATE CRINKLES COOKIE RECIPE
Makes approximately 40 cookies.
- 4 oz unsweetened chocolate, broken into pieces
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup salted butter
- 3 eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 2/3 cups all purpose flour
- 2/3 cups wheat flour
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 – 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2/3 – 1 cup powdered sugar
Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a small saucepan, melt chocolate and both butters over low heat until fully melted. Set aside to cool.
Step 2: Line cookie sheets with parchment paper. In a large mixing bowl, combine eggs, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and vanilla. Stir in melted chocolate; mix thoroughly. Stir in both flours and cocoa powder. Mix until combined.
Step 3: Place granulated sugar in one bowl and powdered sugar into a separate bowl. Dampen your hands with water and quickly round dough into 1 1/2 inch balls. Roll each dough ball first into the granulated sugar, and then into the powdered sugar. Place each cookie on the parchment lined baking sheet spaced 2″ apart.
Step 4: Bake 8-10 minutes (my oven took 9 minutes exactly). Cookies are done when edges are set and cracks appear slightly moist. Remove from oven and allow to cool on baking sheet for 2 minutes. Then place cookies on a wire rack to cool completely.
