We drink smoothies almost every single day. They’re a great alternative to breakfast cereals and can be put together in a flash. Plus, the options are endless and you can always make new recipes for interesting yogurt smoothies for kids. No matter what your taste buds are seeking each morning, you can always make a smoothie recipe to satisfy them.
In our home, the kids get really excited about making their very own favorite flavor combinations. My daughter is a huge fan of her PBJ smoothie using Jif™ Creamy Peanut Butter, Dannon Vanilla Lowfat Yogurt, and frozen strawberries. Whereas my son loves his very own Chocolate Monkey Smoothie using peanut butter, yogurt, bananas, and chocolate almond milk.
We love getting them involved in making healthy breakfast choices for themselves and we find that making homemade smoothies is a great way to do this. We also find that our kids are way more adventurous when they’re in charge of what they’re eating. So if we want them to try a new spice, fruit or vegetable, we often ask them to test it out in one of their smoothies first.
As a parent of picky eaters, I can honestly say that baby spinach was greeted with much disgust until we whirled and swirled it up into tiny pieces in the blender. Instead of being a feared vegetable, it became something really cool to toss into their morning smoothies to turn them green! This is actually how our Green Machine Morning Smoothie came to be. (Hey, I don’t come up with the names – I just write down their recipes!)
Their Green Machine Morning Smoothie recipe combines all of their favorite ingredients into one good-for-you smoothie that fills their bellies and keeps them satisfied until lunchtime. I love that they are making better choices for their morning meals and that they’re getting confident enough in the kitchen to explore new ingredients like nutmeg!
They’ve also learned that as long as they pair some of their old tried-and-true favorites like Jif™ Creamy Peanut Butter, which is gluten-free and contains 7 gram of protein in each serving, and Dannon Vanilla Lowfat Yogurt, which is made with only natural ingredients, they really can’t go wrong!

Thanks Kayla! Believe it or not, you can’t really taste the spinach. Especially if you add a nut butter to your smoothie, it’s really easy to mask the flavor 🙂
