Daniele and I belong to a few social media blogging groups and one of the most often asked questions is, “How do you get noticed and climb up out of the trenches?” A lot of us don’t really know the answer to this question because more often than not, it just comes down to dumb luck. Or at least that’s the way it’s been for my sister and I, and our blog.
Each time we’ve been asked to do an interview, or a radio series, or whatnot, it’s usually come down to being in the right place at the right time. And I know it sounds so cliché, but if I knew how that magic worked, we’d be raking in the millions right now.
What I can tell you is how we got noticed this time. Daniele and I were looking over our archived posts and realized that we had a schlew of summer crafts in there. If you’re like us, you tend to write a lot of great material, but then it gets stuffed into your archive lists and you forget about it. So, with summer in full swing, we decided to create a pin for our Pinterest Board called “10 Easy-To-Do Crafts With Your Kids This Summer“.
We pinned the pin about two weeks ago and sort of forgot about it. It was getting repinned and driving traffic to our blog, and we were happy. We discussed making some more “pins” like that using our archived content and that was that (it is summer afterall – and the kids are home with us, so marketing and planning discussions usually occur over by the swingset).
Then last week, while checking Facebook, a message popped up on my Facebook chat. An old college friend of mine, Steve Noviello, had messaged me. As I opened up the message, I thought, “Wow, I wonder what Steve is up to? And why is he Facebook messaging me?” Little did I know that he had a lovely surprise for us…

Holy Cow! Did I just read all of those texts correctly?! How on Earth does that happen? Never in a million years did we think that our pins would catch the eye of a producer from Good Day on Fox4 down in Dallas, Texas who was researching ideas for a new “Save Me Steve” Good Day show segment. And even though we adore our blog, and our family-friendly content, I can honestly say that we didn’t plan on our blog being “the inspiration for the entire piece”. Even though it’s our dream to be inspiring to many…
Anyways, words cannot express how thrilled Daniele and I are that Steve was kind enough to mention us on air. It was really a lovely thing for him to do and we wanted to share the segment with all of you.

And just in case you haven’t heard of Steve’s “Save Me Steve” Good Day show – it’s hilarious, and full of wonderful ideas. Steve is a really good egg – and he always has been, so please reward his kind-hearted nature and stop by his “Save Me Steve” Facebook page (and say hello). It’s full of funny posts and clips from the Good Day show, and you’ll see that he really enjoys getting his hands dirty – he made the crafts all by himself!
Hugs and happiness to everyone,
Denine (and Daniele)
P.S. Since Daniele and I believe in full disclosure…some parts of the text message have been removed from the picture because they discuss our personal lives…and well, that’s private. 🙂
