Bird Cage Succulent Planter

This Bird Cage Succulent Planter is one of the coolest gardening projects that I've made in a long time. I'm pretty pleased with the results. Pinterest Projects: Bird Cage Succulent Planter | www.weknowstuff.us.com | www.weknowstuff.us.com

I love Pinterest. Really, I do. Some might say that I have a slight obsession with it. Out of all of the social media toys that I play on, Pinterest is my absolute favorite. Right or wrong, I can easily spend a solid 30 minutes pinning my heart away without even noticing that any time has gone by.
Some people run, some people lift weights – but for me, de-stressing includes pinning lots of beautifully inspiring images to my boards in the hopes that I will eventually be able to make, bake or buy all of them one day.

A lot of Pinterest naysayers must not have drawers stuffed to the brim with paper clippings like I do. I can honestly say that before Pinterest, I had a major clutter problem. And the bummer was – I would forget about all of the things that I ripped out of my magazines because they were stuffed into a drawer somewhere and I would never have the time to go flipping through my folders full of clippings.
But now, with Pinterest, I can chill out and decompress for a few minutes each night while I wait for my kids to fall asleep and pin all sorts of pretty things. Even my sister, who is anti-most-social-media, has a Pinterest board!

Anyways, I saw this awesome Bird Cage Succulent Planter a few months ago and I knew it would look incredibly cool on my front porch, so I pinned it to my Pinterest Garden Projects Board to tackle at some point this summer. I’m proud to say that I finally got around to making it – and I’m pretty pleased with the results. It’s not as lovely as the one I pinned – but I had my “little helper” helping me, and well, she’s not always so helpful. 😉
I always like to give credit where credit is due, so I traced the original pin back to Lois Andersen from All Things Plants. You can follow All Things Plants on Pinterest at: http://pinterest.com/atplants.

I’m curious to know – what projects are you planning to try from your Pinterest Boards this summer? If you’ve made any of your pins, leave a comment below so we can check them out! Follow us at: http://pinterest.com/weknowstuff/ – and we’ll be happy to follow some of your boards back!

BIRD CAGE SUCCULENT PLANTER

Materials:

  • Wire birdcage (I got mine at Michael’s.)
  • Cocoa liner
  • Succulents
  • Potting Soil

Directions:

Step 1: Start with some Coco Fiber Liners & a birdcage (I got mine at Michael’s.)

Step 2: Stuff it full of succulents.

Step 3: Give your “little helper” something else to do while you carefully place the succulents in your birdcage planter.

Step 4: If your daughter doesn’t INSIST that you leave “lots of stringy stuff showing for the Momma birds to build their nests with” – feel free to use more succulents & fill it out more than I did. 🙂

Happy Pinning,

Denine

Hey Vicki, That is a good idea. I don’t mind mine rusting as it goes with our old world gardening vibe, but you could absolutely place something in the bottom of it. Bringing indoors sounds lovely… 😉 Thanks for stopping by!

@Anna, we’re big fans of pinterest specifically because it IS so visual. Let us know if you try the planter. I had visions of something way more glorious – but I’d rather spend the quality time with my daughter doing a project together than having it look picture perfect. 😉

That seems like so much fun! My daughter will love to try this. Thanks!
I have to admit, I am not a social media person even though I opened a few accounts but have to agree that pinterest might be the “best”choice for me. I am a visual, artistic and creative person.
