Many women I know have a signature piece of jewelry that defines who they are. Whether it is a ring, a necklace or a pair of earrings – it’s a piece that tells a story about who they are. It may be simple or ornate, small or big, worn every day – or just for the really special occasions. Whenever the wearer has it on, you know she is feeling her best.

When I was a child, I remember sitting on my grandmother’s lap twirling her birthstone ring on her long graceful finger. My sister and I would ask her over and over again to tell us about her ring. We wanted to know when she got it, how long she had it and for which children she had the birthstones for. It was beautiful, and it perfectly symbolized my grandmother and her intense love for her grandchildren.

My sister wears a small, simple necklace with her children’s initials stamped into it. My brother in law surprised her with it one Christmas and I knew immediately it would become her signature piece. Like most mothers, her children mean the world to her. For my sister, who was once told she would never be able to have children – her necklace symbolizes a long, tough, but ultimately blessed journey that she and her husband shared.

I wear a gold locket that my husband gave me for my birthday. Inside, I have a picture of my daughter and my son. The way it lays across my chest reminds me of my children resting their tired little heads against me when they need to be close. I wear it almost every day, as it is a reminder to me that their childhood may be fleeting, but their love will always be with me.

My mother had her signature piece – and then it was lost. She always wore a diamond cross necklace that was given to her by my father. He passed away long before we ever thought we would have to say goodbye. As with any great loss, we spent a lot of time together as a family, doing our best to support each other. My sister and I would go to church with my mom every Sunday and she would hold onto her cross, praying. I noticed her hand would subconsciously go to her cross throughout the day. She would touch it, for comfort, for reassurance, for something tangible that would let her know she was going to be ok.

That cross was her signature piece and when it was lost, our hearts broke for her. It meant so much more to her than a pretty necklace to wear. It symbolized loss, hope, and strength.

My sister and I knew we had to find a way to replace it. We put together a savings plan so we could work together towards the goal of finding my mom a new signature piece, not the same – but similar enough that she would love it as much as the one that was lost.

This past winter our goal came to fruition, we surprised my mom with her new diamond cross on Christmas Day. The utter shock on her face and the tears that sprang from her eyes said it all. I had never been so happy in my life to see my mom crying those tears of joy. So you can imagine our surprise when she told us a few days after Christmas that the chain had broke. Immediately we thought the worst, that her necklace was gone – again. Luckily for her, fate intervened and the necklace was caught on her coat button where she saw it dangling!

We set out to replace her broken chain with a stronger chain, that was not too long, not too short, not too light and yet not too heavy. Our search was starting to feel like we were trying to find the perfect porridge for Goldilocks! Eventually, we came across Eve’s Addiction – an online jewelry store that had the perfect chain we were looking for. It even had a lobster claw clasp, which my mom swears is the safest feature you can have.  Eve’s Addiction specializes in a variety of jewelry and gifts for everyone in your life. They also offer great ways to personalize jewelry and gifts including engraved necklaces, photo jewelry, engraved picture frames and much more.
