Every summer I am struck with "garden envy" whenever I walk into my sister's yard. Our mother for some unknown reason passed both of her green thumbs down to my sister. Gardening totally baffles me:
How much water? How much sun? What do you mean I can't grow oranges on Long Island?
Aside from being completely clueless, I don't have much gardening space. My yard is small at best, and I dedicate the yard space for my kids to run and play. I always assumed that vegetable gardening was not in my near future.

And to be honest, I am getting tired of stealing vegetables out of my sister's yard in the middle of the night. I'm not the best neighbor….
When my sister handed me this book, she could barely hide the smirk on her face. It was written for me. The Any Size, Anywhere Edible Gardening book, by William Moss, host of HGTV's Dig In. "The no yard, no time, no problem way to grow your own food." I was so excited, that maybe…just maybe I too could garden without those elusive green thumbs.

I immediately dug in to this book. I was hooked at "If prehistoric people could scratch out subsistence gardens using stone tools in some rocky dust, then you can grow a tomato successfully," says Moss. "And you can do it anywhere, from city to suburb and from farmland to container."
Now we're talking!

I found this book to be an invaluable resource when it comes to small space vegetable gardening. All of the things I don't know, are covered in this book. The many different types of small space gardens, the different types of containers that can be used, time-saving tips, how and most importantly what to grow!
Before reading this book, I had no idea how many hidden gardening opportunities were surrounding me in my little yard. I realized I wasn't limited to large planters and pots taking up precious ground space. I could grow vertically! Trellises, stacked planters, and arbors are going to be my best friends in the spring.

I read this book with a pen and a notepad so I could start planning my garden for next year. Now is a great time to buy containers at bargain prices and map out what and where you will do your vegetable gardening. I highly reccommend this book to anyone that is interested in edible gardening. Whether you have green thumbs or don't you will find many exciting ideas in Any Size, Anywhere Edible Gardening, by William Moss.
