Last week, we hosted a Garden Party for our kids and one of the many fun crafts that we had them make were their very own terrariums. We always seem to have an excess of little plastic figurines lying about and we just knew that the kids would have a blast decorating their little terrariums with some of them. So we picked through their unused collections and came up with a great assortment of frogs, turtles and fairies.
The materials for this craft are easy to find and inexpensive too. You can find plastic Betta Bowl Kits at your local pet supply store. (We found these at Petco). The plastic kit was much more affordable (and safer) than their glass counterparts.
To keep the party all about the kids, we let them get as creative as they wanted to with their terrariums. We simply provided the materials and helped them place the “dirt” and plants. The best part about this craft was seeing how proud they were when they finished their masterpieces!
Not only did our Betta Fish Terrariums Craft give some old toys a new lease on life, but it also gives them the newfound responsibility of caring for their plant!
KIDS’ CRAFT: MAKING TERRARIUMS WITH BETTA FISH BOWLS
Materials:
- Betta Fish plastic bowl kit (comes with gravel which we used for drainage)
- Potting Soil
- Small plant
- Old plastic figurines – think animals, fairies, army men – or whatever you can find!
Directions:
Step 1: Open your Betta Kit. Save the gravel, and donate the fish food to someone who needs it!
Step 2: Gather up some old toys, small plants and potting soil.
Step 3: Help the children fill the bowl with soil halfway, and then gently push the plant into the soil.
Step 4: Allow them to arrange their toys in the dirt and in the plant – as they see fit.
Step 5: Add water and admire their creativity!
