Lavender Sugar Scrub – Natural Summer Beauty

This post is about how taking some simple steps in leg care will help deliver great looking, healthy legs. This post is part of the #SummerizeYourLegs #shop hosted by #CollectiveBias and its advertiser. All opinions are my own.

The weather is finally starting to warm up here on Long Island and I am starting to prep for summer! We have consistently been having warmer days, which is a welcome change. Previously the weather here has been manic, 60’s one day and 80’s the next. Getting the kids dressed for school has been quite the challenge. I bundle them up each morning, making sure they have numerous layers to peel off through out their day. They leave for school looking like they are headed for the mountains and come home looking ready for the beach.

With the warming weather, I have started to put away the bulky winter clothing and unpacked the summer wardrobes. Except for the one winter item I can not find the courage to part with. My long black winter running pants. Each and every time I try to pack them up I pull them back out. I sadly realize that when they go away, I will have to run exclusively in my running shorts. My short, bright, breezy running shorts that show off my painfully pale legs.

When I say painfully pale, what I really mean is that they are painful to look at. People actually shield their eyes when they are out in the open. When I go running in shorts I actually blind the runners coming from the opposite direction. I have some sort of magical superpower that allows my legs to bounce the sun right off them. They are like magical mirror legs, deflecting light beams at the unsuspecting passerby.

It honestly doesn’t matter if it is the beginning or end of the summer, they always stay the same color. At this point in my life, I have come to accept and embrace the milky, sallow color that they love to be. They are what they are – legs. They do what I need them to do and I should be happy to have them, regardless of their lack of a summer tan. They might not be worthy of a swimsuit catalog, but at least I can get them beach ready.

wks_llss3

My favorite way to get them looking “acceptable” is to scrub all the dry winter skin off them with my homemade lavender sugar scrub. It only uses three ingredients and when I am done, my skin is soft and smooth. In the summer I use this scrub daily for my arms, legs and feet. I also make sure I use a great razor, moisturizer and an enormous amount of sun screen. I find my shaving, moisturizing and beauty products at Walmart.com.

LAVENDER SUGAR SCRUB

Materials:

  • Turbinado sugar
  • Coconut or Olive oil
  • Lavender essential oil

Directions:

Step 1: Mix 2 parts sugar and 1 part coconut or olive oil. (You may need to lay with the consistency a bit. If there is a pool of oil on top of the sugar, just keep adding more sugar until it’s all mixed in.)

Step 2: Add 7-8 drops of essential oil; mix thoroughly. Store in an airtight, plastic container.

Ha ha – neither do mine. It seems pointless to let my legs out in the sun – but at least they look smooth 🙂

You can also use coconut oil instead of olive oil, which is really good for KP. I have it all over my legs and arms 🙂
