Hangry? Never Fear. Mom’s Snack Bags Are Here!

Have you ever had one of those days where you really wish you could push the Redo button almost as soon as it starts? Yeah, well that was my day yesterday. It seems that I forgot to put some very important stuff into my calendar last week and I paid for it dearly. Instead of going about my day calm, cool and collected like I like to be, I was a frustrated, hot mess with a million things to do.

I was running here, there and everywhere in between, which meant that I had little time to eat. This is a very bad thing for me because I get hangry. And when I get hangry, I am not pleasant to be around. Not even a teensy tiny bit pleasant. I am cranky. I am snappy. I am peevy. I am more or less an adult-sized toddler behaving very badly, which is why I always need to be prepared.

It sounds simple, but in all reality, even planning takes planning – especially when you’re a busy Mom on the go all of the time. Between doctor appointments, school and after-school activities, you can easily lose track of time. I also happen to work from home, so I end my work day right when the kids get off the bus. To make the most of our time together, I also try to schedule their after-school events for right after school so that we can all be home in time for dinner.

But what I don’t always account for is that sometimes, my work day is off kilter and I don’t get a chance to eat lunch before they get home. So if we have somewhere that we need to be right after school, it’s into the car I go with whatever I can grab in the fridge right before I head out the door.

It’s times like these that I quickly reach for one of my new guilty pleasures, Snapple® Straight Up™ Tea. I found these new teas in the little cooler by the check-out line of my local Walmart and picked up all 3 flavors — Sorta Sweet, Sweet and Unsweetened. I wanted to test them out and see if their refreshing real tea taste could put a smile on my hangry face.

Even though Snapple® Straight Up™ Tea is delicious, I also need to have something to eat. This is where my pre-packed snack bags always come in handy because no matter where you go, you can always have a tasty, nutritious snack on hand if you plan ahead. I like to stock my snack bags full of pistachios, dried cherries and granola. It’s a nice blend of chewy and crunchy, and salty and sweet. I keep them readily accessible at all times — in our snack bin, in the pool bag, in my glove compartment — pretty much, anywhere that a hangry person might go looking for treats.

Because, seriously folks, nothing is worse than having to sit through a 2-hour, freezing cold, super windy, soccer practice with nothing to eat or drink! So how do you keep yourself from getting hangry when you’re on the go all day long? Share your tips with us!

Don’t be hangry,

Denine

Hangry? Pack a snack bag.
