My sister and I are together almost every single day. Therefore, our four children are also together – almost every single day. Needless to say, life without noise is, well, we wouldn’t actually know what that sounded like…
So, it goes without saying that “feeding time” over here can be quite chaotic – and as we’ve recently noticed, not as healthy as it could be. We both started out with such good intentions, but as the kids got older (and more vocal) we began to cave. Now that our two oldest just graduated from pre-school (sniff, sniff), we’ve decided to get back on the healthier eating bandwagon before it’s too late.
However, my sister and I are not going to be unrealistic. We need to stay focused and take baby steps with our clan. And, we definitely have our work cut out for us: for starters, we need to convince our toddler-set that fruit snacks aren’t really fruit!
So with sensibility in mind, we shall start out by trying to get them to eat some fresh fruit in their morning cereal so that they have something substantial in their tummies to start the day. And, no – the crunch berries found in their Captain Crunch does not count as real fruit either!
Round 1: Replacing their Froot Loops with multigrain Cheerios and bananas.
The Verdict: My son likes it! As for my daughter, she ran away screaming "No, no, no, no, no!"
Stay with us, and be entertained as we try to convert our eating ways…
