Sunflowers are my favorite flowers, they always look so happy! My husband knows that they always remind me of my dad, so the other day he brought me home two packages of sunflowers. A yellow variety and a red variety. I couldn’t wait to plant them!
As I was reading the planting instructions I saw that they should be started in a small containers. I was looking around the house for something I could use for small containers. I opened the refrigerator and saw the endless rows of juice boxes sitting on the shelf. Hooray! I found my containers. I waited a few days to collect a bunch and started my juice box sunflower project.
KIDS CRAFT: JUICE BOX SUNFLOWERS
Materials:
- juice boxes, empty and well rinsed
- seeds
- potting soil
- sunlight
Directions:
Step 1: Cut juice boxes in half. Rinse thoroughly. Poke a drain hole in each bottom (half of your containers will already have their drain hole from where the straw was inserted.)
Step 2: Fill juice boxes with dirt and add your sunflower seeds. Water often and watch them grow!
Happy planting,
Daniele
Laura that is so great that you have a grow lab, your students must love it! I can not believe how fast the sunflowers are growing. The kids are so excited to see them! Any suggestions for other fast growing seeds?
My students grew sunflowers this past year…we have a Grow Lab, since I have no windows in my room. It was fun.
Cute!
