My husband loves chicken soup, he asks for it at least once a week. That can add up to a lot of chicken soup during the course of a year. I thought I could shake things up a little and try making chicken and dumpling soup for my soup fan.
With Valentine's Day around the corner I wanted to surprise him with a few hearts floating in his soup! His expression was priceless as I handed him his big bowl of soup. Apparently, a bowl full of hearts is a sure fire way to put a smile on your husband's face!
(Now I know everyone has their own way of making chicken soup, so feel free to make your recipe as you like and then toss in the dumplings at the end.)
Ingredients:
10 cups chicken broth
3 chicken cutlets cut into bite sized pieces
3 celery stalks washed and cut into pieces
3 carrots cut into heart shapes
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
Heart Shaped Carrots:
Cut a triangle shape the length of the top of the carrot. Then slice a strip off the length of both sides. Slice carrots.
Heart Shaped Dumplings:
2 Cup All-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
4 Tablespoons melted butter
3/4 Cup Whole Milk
Sift flour and baking powder and salt together. Mix in milk and butter. Once the dough comes together, put on a floured surface. Knead for a few minutes until smooth. Roll put to 1/4 inch thickness and cut into heart shapes. You can either you a cookie cutter or use a knife to cut out a basic heart shape.
Chicken Soup:
Bring chicken broth and chicken to boil. Boil for 10 minutes, remove chicken. Boil carrots and celery until tender. Put chicken back in, drop dumplings in one by one. Reduce heat and simmer for 8-10 minutes. Stir frequently.

Dumplings are THE best, and heart-shaped dumplings… adorable. It’s so sweet that the carrots are heart shaped too. Lucky husband to have so much love put into his soup!
