Before my sister and I became Stay-At-Home-Moms, we used to work for a flowerbulb and perennial company, K. Van Bourgondien & Sons. Over the five years that we worked for the Van Bourgondien family, we gained a tremendous amount of knowledge about bulbs and perennials.
As their Internet Marketing Manager, I had the good fortune to travel with the Van Bourgondiens to various gardening conferences throughout the year. I was even invited to speak at the Mail Order Gardening Association conference one year about Search Engine Optimatization and other marketing tactics. It was a very cool gig to have…
And athough my gardens are not half as beautiful as they used to be (before my little gremlins came to be), my passion for all things gardening has not diminished; my home is full of dog-eared catalogs, and I still scratch out my garden designs into a well-worn notebook. But now that my children are a wee bit older, they too, have come to love gardening – which I love, and nurture at every chance I get.
So, it was with great happiness that Better Homes & Gardens contacted my sister and I to review two of their new gardening books. The best part (aside from getting to read them) is that we get to give away a copy of each of these new gardening books!
This week, our focus is on Better Home & Gardens: Gardening Made Simple. This book is chock-full of great gardening information and even though I was advised to not read it page-by-page due to its abundance of information, I couldn't resist. I found myself reading all of the pages – one by one; I was in full-on "Gardening Geek" mode for several nights in a row. And, I couldn't have been happier!
Gardening Made Simple is not only a great "1st gardening book" for novice gardeners, but it's also a handy reference guide for more seasoned gardeners. Loaded with beautiful pictures and full of step-by-step instructions on how to create beautiful gardens, this book will help gardeners achieve all of their green-thumb dreams.
I, for one, truly enjoyed the "Growing Potatoes In A Bag" tutorial; it's a perfect gardening activity to do with my children! We also enjoyed looking at the "Problematic Insects" section together – my kids love all sorts of creepy crawlies and were thrilled to see that grubs were mentioned in the book! You see our kids have recently became obessed with grubs because our English Setters think they are quite a tasty treat! One of our gals noshed down 6 of them the other day. Apparently, she enjoys a high-protein diet!
But, I digress. The real treat is that one of our lucky readers will win their very own copy of Better Home & Gardens: Gardening Made Simple. This is a lovely gardening resource and you'll be sure to keep it within arms reach to answer any of your gardening questions!
