As Long Islanders, we're used to storms – mostly nor'easters, but every once in a while we get hit with a hurricane too. Last year, we braved Hurricane Irene, which wasn't half as bad as we all expected, but there was lots of flooding and downed trees. Now, Hurricane Sandy is fast upon us – it's creeping up our coastline as I write this review, but the damage remains to be seen.
So, now that hurricane season is here, we like to cuddle up together and read our favorite books – one of which is a well-worn copy of Storm Wrangler, written by Coert Voorhess. It's a an all-out cowboy -meets- superhero -meets- best-daddy-ever kind of tale!
With pages upon pages of gorgeous illustrations, and a lovely lilting text, it has become one of my son's most requested books, especially during stormy weather. Since he likes it so much, I decided it would only be fair to let him provide the content of our book review.
At six, he's quite the storyteller himself, and I knew he'd jump at the chance to share his favorite book with other kids his age. In order to keep it honest – and age appropriate – I have relinquished my grammatical editing needs in order to let his voice shine through.
