Our Favorite VTech Toys for Kids

As parents, we’ve been proud purchasers of VTEch products for years. Our VTech Toys for Kids gift guide includes many of our children’s favorite toys.

Like most moms, I try to find a healthy balance between traditional toys and technological toys. I encourage my children to take turns, be creative and play together whenever possible. I prefer to find toys for my children that combine fun, learning and creativity. I look at most toy purchases as an investment, I don’t want my children to have a home filled with toys that they never play with. I feel that the clutter of too many toys can become an overwhelming distraction for them.

I prefer to have a few high quality, toys that are greatly enjoyed by them. When my kids approach me about a new toy that they have to have, I go through a mental checklist.

  • Is it age appropriate?
  • Does it have educational qualities?
  • Is it a fleeting interest, did they see it on a commercial?
  • Will it engage them for longer than the time it takes to open the box?

Although not every toy meets these requirements, I try to make sure that it won’t be tossed into the back of a closet after a few minutes of play. I find a really easy way to gauge my child’s interest in the toy is by asking them a simple question.

Would you be willing to use the money in your piggy bank to buy this toy?

If I am met with that “deer in headlights” look, I know this is not the toy for them. If they seem unsure, I tell them to think about it and give me a few reasons why they really want to have the toy. If you use this tactic in your own home, watch out for the natural born debaters! You might find yourself having to have to same toy 🙂

Recently my family had the opportunity to review the VTech InnoTab MAX, the learning tablet for kids. The first thing about this tablet that I noticed, was it was built to last. It has a tough, durable kid-friendly cover than can be removed. For my family, this is a huge deal. I’ve had tablets stepped on and phones dropped, resulting in smashed screens and a very sad mommy.

The InnoTab also has a library full of learning apps that are age appropriate for children ages 3-9. I love that I can add apps to The Learning Lodge for my children to use. In addition to the Educator-Supported games, e-books and apps, kids also have access to Android apps. In addition, this tablet also has Wifi and VTEch Kid Connect, which allows children to receive text and voice messages from their parents. My kids can also send me their photos and drawings. I really like this feature as my children are still quite young and are not ready to be online or text their friends yet. Only parents can send and approve contact list requests so they know their child is communicating safely.

    We have a lot of Vtech toys from the vacuum to the touch teach turtle! My son loves his innotab the first edition!

    My daughter whos 6 would so love the innotaub max and i do think it would help her so much with her learning as right now she is a slow learner and needs all the help she can get, thank you for the chance

    We had the move & crawl ball when my 4 year old was younger. She loved it! Now she would love the Innotab Max, though.

    We got the vTech tea set for our granddaughter last year, it was designed a wee bit differently for 2013, but she LOVED it! She’s ready for something like a mini-laptop or a tablet and Vtech is the first place we’ll look for something that’s both age-appropriate and fun!

    I like the 3 in 1 learn and care stroller. I had a similar one as a girl and it was one of my favorite toys.
