By now, I’m sure you’ve heard about FARE’s Teal Pumpkin Project™ – a wonderful campaign that I support and I hope you will too! FARE stands for Food Allergy Research and Education, and this organization works on behalf of the 15 million Americans with food allergies, including all those at risk for life-threatening anaphylaxis.
The Teal Pumpkin Project™ raises awareness of food allergies and promotes a safer, happier Halloween by encouraging households to make non-food treats available so that trick-or-treaters who need to avoid candy – due to food allergies or other reasons – can fully participate. Households can show they are participating by placing a teal pumpkin in front of their home.
Last year, households from 50 states and 7 countries participated in the Teal Pumpkin Project™. This year, we wanted to help spread the word and encourage you to visit tealpumpkinproject.org to join 100,000 households pledging to participate in the Teal Pumpkin Project™.
To get you started, we created a super fast tutorial for you on how you can make your very own teal pumpkin to display at your home and included some printables for you too! All you need is a white funkin and some turquoise and black paint Sharpies!
Halloween Craft: FARE Teal Pumpkin Project
Materials:
- 1 white funkin
- 1 #2 pencil
- 1 black Sharpie, medium tip
- 1 teal Sharpie paint marker, medium tip
Directions:
Step 1: Sketch out a spooky face on your funkin with a pencil. When you’re happy with it, outline and/or color in the face parts – eyes, ears, nose, and mouth – with a black Sharpie.
Step 2: Using a medium tip teal Sharpie, color in the rest of your funkin. The whole thing should be teal when you’re finished.
Step 3: Download and print this flyer and hang it in your window. Then place your teal pumpkin outside for trick-or-treaters to see when they come knocking on your door. Don’t forget to fill a bowl with non-food treats like stickers, tattoos, erasers and other fun doo-dads!
Have a safer Halloween,
Denine
