This Spooky Terrarium uses Salt Dough Ghosts and mason jars to create a truly creepy Halloween decoration. A keepsake decoration that’ll last for years!
I have a glass jar sitting on my countertop. I have been meaning to return it to my sister so she can make me some more yummy jam. But, I really like this glass jar. I am not one for collecting, but I do like glass. So I know my sister won’t mind if I permanently borrow her glass jar, just like I permanently borrow so many things out of her closet!
I have been thinking about what I could do with the jar…fill it with flowers? Sure that would be nice. Or I could make it into a spooky terrarium for Halloween!
A SPOOKY TERRARIUM: SALT DOUGH GHOSTS
Materials:
- mason jar
- construction paper
- salt dough ghosts
Directions:
Step 1: Thoroughly clean a glass jar. It can be a jelly jar, a sauce jar…anything.
Step 2: Find material to fill the bottom of the jar. I gathered up some shredded paper packing material. You can crumple up construction paper, paint cotton balls black or even use dried black beans as the ground cover.
Step 3: Mix up some Salt Dough Ghosts to put in your spooky terrarium. (I found the recipe on Spoonful.com.)
Step 4: Build your materials on the lid of the jar using glue (I used a glue gun). For added height and support I used some wooden blocks I found in the toy box!
Step 5: Hide the terrarium in your kitchen cabinet. When I showed my daughter the terrarium she got very upset and asked me to let the ghosts out of the jar. “They look like they are yelling for help.” Nothing like a craft giving you goosebumps. Looks like Denine is getting her jar back!
Happy Halloween,
Daniele

This is such a cute craft. I’ve done something similar to this for Christmas and didn’t think about doing one for Halloween
