As any little league parent can tell you, baseball and softball games can go on for hours. So we always make sure to have some of these Healthier Snack Ideas For Kids Sports on hand at all times. My family is enjoying healthy snacks as part of a sponsored series with GoGo squeeZ and Socialstars. #GoGosqueeZSquad

In our neck of the woods, April kicks off little league baseball and softball season. Needless to say, our afternoons, evenings, and weekends get pretty hectic, pretty fast. This means that we’re often eating on the go, which I don’t really care for.
As someone who loves to cook nutritious meals at home, the idea of eating fast food or take out 2-3 times a week really grosses me out. So I do my best to come up with quick dinner ideas that can be eaten before weekday practices and I try to pack as many healthy snack options as I can for our weekend games. This way, the food that I pack can help fuel their little bodies while they’re hard at work swinging bats, chasing balls, and hanging out with their teammates.

That’s not to say that I don’t let the kids indulge from time to time…because I do. But I just make sure to balance their want for a hot dog and a slushie from the snack stand with healthier options too. At any given time, you can find my trusty insulated bag filled to the brim with all sorts of healthier snack ideas. This way, if I think they might be overindulging in some way-too-sugary treats, I can offer them something more nutritious instead.
As any little league parent can tell you, baseball and softball games can go on for hours. And during this time, the kiddos can really rally through a ton of food and drinks, so it’s important to plan ahead of time. I’ve been at this for a few years now, so I thought I’d share with you what I usually keep hidden in the depths of my insulated bag! P.S. These healthier treats are also really good at keeping younger siblings away from the snack stands too while they watch the game.

HEALTHIER SNACK IDEAS FOR KIDS SPORTS
1.) Sliced vegetables and hummus.
There is always something so satisfying about biting into crunchy vegetables. As someone who used to be notorious for snacking when bored, I love having an assortment of sliced vegetables on hand. Carrots, celery, and red peppers are my favorite for their crunch factor, but I’m also a sucker for cucumbers too. I also like to bring along some little containers of hummus so the kids can dip their veggies into it while waiting for their turn at bat.
2.) Fruit.
Our Grandfather used to say “Fruit is Nature’s candy,” and I always used to think he was such a dork. Now that I’m a Mom, I couldn’t agree more and I crack up every time I try to use this line on my own kids. Luckily for me, they do like a lot of fruit,so they don’t put up too much of a fight. I like to bring along cut up strawberries for my daughter as well as some apples, bananas, or oranges for my son to eat in the dugout.
3.) Squeezable snacks, like applesauce or yogurt.
We’ve always been fans of GoGo SqueeZ 100% fruit applesauce because it’s just so convenient. But this year, our kids are looking forward to snacking on GoGo SqueeZ YogurtZ too. Like all GoGo squeeZ products, this scrumptious yogurt is filled with all the GoGo Goodness we know and love without any preservatives. Plus, it doesn’t need to be refrigerated so you can store it at room temperature. However, with that said, we really like stashing a box of them in the freezer the night before so we can all eat frozen Fro-Yo-Gos at the game!
4.) Homemade trail mix.
Who doesn’t love trail mix? It’s sweet, it’s salty, and it’s yummy! We line up a bunch of ingredients on the kitchen table and let the kids make their own concoctions. Everything from peanuts, almonds, and pistachios to dried fruit like cherries, raisins, and cranberries goes into their mixes. They love being in charge of what they get to eat and this really lets them use their imaginations.
5.) Homemade treats!
As I said before, I love to cook and bake and you can always find a schlew of homemade treats in our kitchen. Muffins are a great option for kids sports events because they pack well and fit right inside their little palms. Some of their favorites are our Flaxseed Pumpkin with Almond Milk, Apple Flaxseed Muffins, Orange Cranberry Whey Protein Muffin Recipe, and Chocolate Zucchini Quinoa Muffins.

So now that I’ve shared with all of you what I like to bring to my kids’ sporting events, what do YOU do when spring sports season kicks into high gear? Are their tried-and-true recipes that you rely on? Or do you just go with the flow and grab some snacks at the stand? Let me know in the comments section below.
