Helping Kids Clean Up With WaterWipes

“Why is this sticky?”

Every summer I find myself uttering this baffling question everywhere I go. The kitchen, the backyard, the bathroom, and the car. No surface in my house is safe from sticky hands. I like to blame it on summer, ice pops, ice cream cones, and s’mores that seem to be a constant accessory in the hands of my children. Their sticky hands get stuck in my hair, their sticky lips get stuck to my cheeks and eventually I find myself just as sticky as them.

I have to be honest with you, my children are well of the age that they know they need to wash their hands often and thoroughly. It’s getting them to stop and take notice of their dirty hands that is the challenge. I do feel that they should monitor their own state of messiness, but sometimes they need a little help from mom.

When they are racing around the yard playing tag, covered in ice pop dribble – the last thing they are thinking about is coming in to wash up. Although there is a hose in the yard, sometimes cold water does very little to rinse off dried-on ice cream.  More often than not, you need something to scrub up with.

The other day I found myself day-dreaming about getting a big tin tub and a long-handled boat brush. I could scrub them down from a distance the same way they clean up the elephants at the circus. (Don’t worry, I’m joking…mostly.) Even with that glorious image in my head, I knew I needed to do more to empower them to get cleaned up.

After stumbling across WaterWipes at my local Target, I decided to pick up a few packages of them for my kids. I love that they are chemical free and only contain two ingredients, 99.9% pure Irish water and 0.1% grapefruit seed extract. WaterWipes don’t contain any of the harmful chemicals that may be found in other baby wipes! This way, when their hands and faces are messy, I can feel good about handing them a package of WaterWipes.

With some strategic placement of these WaterWipes packages, I noticed a remarkable decrease in the amount of sticky surfaces. I have found it helpful to stash them in the kid’s clubhouse, next to their craft table, and in the car. By providing them with an easily accessible way to clean themselves up, I am helping them to take responsibility for their own messes.
