Small Entryway Organization Ideas

This post has been sponsored by Wayfair. All thoughts and opinions are our own. Do you struggle with kid created messes in your entryway? Our small entryway organization ideas will help you corral the messes and keep you happy!

In my home, the back entryway has always been a bit of an eyesore. It serves a primarily utilitarian purpose, the kids come in, drop their stuff and sometimes even manage to kick their shoes into the coat closet. For the most part, whenever I venture to the back door, I am greeted by dirty footprints on the floor and a flurry of leaves and debris that blew in with my kids.

It is a high traffic area, which explains the constant mess, but that doesn’t mean I want to look at it. I finally grew tired of the constant grumbling under my breath about the mess. Rolling my eyes and muttering to myself certainly wasn’t getting the mess under control. I knew I could easily organize the space with the addition of a few simple items.

5 Small Entryway Organization Ideas

  1. Add Seating for your small space.
Everyone needs a convenient place to sit down to untie their shoes, right? By adding a small bench you can prevent your kids from putting their dirty hands all over your walls as they kick off their muddy shoes. It will also prevent their sneakers from flying down your hallway spraying dirt everywhere – trust me on this one.
  2. Storage baskets.
Where should they put all their junk? In a basket of course! Choose a bench that allows you to place a few storage baskets under it. I can not tell you how many times I’ve found piles of outdoor toys shoved into a corner. A few baskets give your kids the perfect spot to drop their stuff.
  3. A pretty accent rug.
Choose a rug that has a non-skid backing and can be machine-washed! This will save you a lot of stress when you see those muddy footprints all over your beautiful rug. For my space, I chose a lovely ELLE Decor Collection accent rug by Home Dynamix. They are incredibly durable and stylish for the high traffic areas in my home.
  4. Hang some fun artwork!
It is no secret that kids love to see their artwork on display. I love decorating my home with my children’s art. All you need is a frame and one of your children’s beautiful creations. Believe me, it’s a great way to brighten a boring space 🙂
  5. Include hanging hooks.
A few hooks go a long way when keeping a space organized. Although I have a coat closet across from my entryway, small things can easily get lost in a large closet. I use this spot to hang my keys, the dog’s leash and anything else I need to find quickly.

I hope these tips help you get your own entryway under control. If you like the rug featured in this post, you can find the ELLE Décor Collection on HomeDynamix.com and on Wayfair.com.
