UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation: Helping Families In Need

UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation: helping children and families in need of financial assistance due to a child’s medical needs not being covered. This post is sponsored by UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation.
UnitedHealthcare Children's Foundation: helping children and families in need of financial assistance due to a child's medical needs not being covered.

Have you ever lay awake at night wondering if you’ll be able to afford all of your child’s medical costs? Many parents do, which is why the UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation wants to bring awareness to their grant application program.

UHCCF’s overall goal is to help children and families in need of financial assistance due to a child’s medical needs not being covered or not being fully covered by their commercial health insurance plan. In fact, 88.9% of qualified, completed grant submissions are approved!

The Foundation’s goal is to fund and award its 20,000th medical grant by the year 2020. And they are well on their way – they’ve already awarded over 13,000 grants! But they are funded mainly by donors and they need our help!

How can I help?

1.) Take a moment to visit their website to see how you can donate to UHCCF. Every donation, no matter how big or small helps a family in need of financial assistance.

2.) Share this post. Yep, it’s that simple. Just share our post and encourage your friends and family members learn more about UHCCF. And to thank you for helping us raise awareness, you’ll have a chance to win a $50.00 Amazon gift card. See the details at the bottom of this post!

Meet a family that received a grant:

One of the great things about the Foundation is that the impact of their work can be seen so directly in the stories told by their grant recipients and their families. Watch this video to learn how Rachel and her family, located in Minnesota, received a UHCCF grant that helped them provide the medical treatment required for Rachel’s scoliosis and diaphragm surgeries.

What are the grants?

UHCCF grants provide financial help/assistance for families with children that have medical needs not covered or not fully covered by their commercial health insurance plan. The Foundation aims to fill the gap between what medical services/items a child needs and what their commercial health benefit plan will pay for.

What is the criteria to apply for a grant?

Applications must meet certain criteria to be considered for a grant. Please review the application criteria carefully before applying. The criteria can be found here.

How does the grant work?

If a grant is approved by the Regional Board of Directors for a child, the grant will help pay for approved medical services/items after the family’s commercial health insurance plan submits payment, if any. Grant funds are not paid to the family or the child outright. Grant families must work with the Foundation on submitting invoices/bills for approved medical services/items after their commercial health insurance plan submits initial payment (if any) to the health care provider.

UHCCF Mission:

Important things to know:

  • Grant awards are retroactive to sixty days prior to the date of application. They have an expiration date of approximately one year unless the funds are exhausted prior to the expiration date. The grant will NOT cover any medical costs outside this date range.
  • The applicant must be 16 years old or younger, live in the United States, and receive and pay for care/items in the United States.
  • The applicant must be covered by a commercial health insurance plan.
  • There is a scale of financial eligibility to qualify for a medical grant. Awards will not be granted to individuals in families whose Adjusted Gross Income exceeds the scale.
  • The health care professional is paid directly; exceptions can be made to reimburse the family if adequate documentation is submitted showing the health care professional has been paid.
