Little Bear’s Simple Snow Cream Recipe

Did your kids ever watch Little Bear? Do you remember when Granny made her simple Snow Cream recipe? Well, we do and we made some of our own!
Did your kids ever watch Little Bear? Do you remember when Granny made her simple Snow Cream recipe? Well, we do and we made some of our own!
The other day, I was watching the “Whether, Weather (Snowball)“ episode of Little Bear with the kids. Little Bear and his parents got stuck in a snow storm at Emily’s Grandmother’s house. In true Little Bear fashion, they took a potentially negative situation and turned it into a positive. So while they were all snowbound, Granny decided to make them some Snow Cream. My kids were glued to the tv as they watched Emily, Little Bear, and his family gather around Granny and chant,

“Whether the weather be cold or
Whether the weather be hot
We’ll weather together, whatever the weather
Whether we like it or not!”

As soon as the kids saw Little Bear chowing down on some Snow Cream, they demanded to know if it could really be done. To be completely honest, I had no idea that you could make ice cream out of snow. So, we decided to give it a whirl. After all, you only need a few ingredients – snow, honey and milk – and we had all of that on hand.

We had a great time making Snow Cream together and we were all really surprised at just how tasty Granny’s version really was. Just for kicks, we also made some Chocolate Snow Cream because my husband has a hideous sweet tooth! So, if you happen t have some nice, fluffy ‘ve got clean snow on the ground, surprise your kids by turning it into ice cream.

So, if you happen to have some nice, fluffy, clean snow on the ground, surprise your kids by turning it into ice cream for them. Thanks to Little Bear, we started a fun new tradition in our home!

Thank you! We’ve seen the episode “Snowbound” several times this week. Last night we had our first real snow. My toddlers are tickled pink to be eating snow cream just like Little Bear.

I was a kid when little bear first aired and I’m an adult know. Was looking everywhere for a clip of that particular episode. SOMEHOW I remembered that little chant and it led me here. Thanks so much for sharing. What nostalgia!

Thanks guys! I had no idea you could do this either – but it was a huge hit. My Uncle wants to know if I can make a peanut butter version – so we’ll see how that goes!

Oh I wish I new about this recipe when my kids were little. Considering they are both college age I may be hitting you up for this recipe in a decade or so for grandbabie 🙂
