Harbes Farm & Orchard in Riverhead, NY has an incredible 5-acre corn maze with characters that come to greet you at the entrance and hand you a map with 3 treasures to find. It’s a fun, family-friendly, fall attraction on Long Island.
I am sure many families made big apple picking plans this fall, only to find out there were no apples left on the east end of Long Island. We made our way out to Harbes Farm & Orchard in Riverhead, only to find out they were all out of apples. No apples, none. We soon found out that unfortunately, Hurricane Irene did a number on the apple orchards and pumpkin fields on Long Island.
Although we were a little disappointed, we quickly discovered the Harbes Middle Earth Corn Maze Adventure. Harbes may have run out of apples, but they definitely did not run out of fun!
The Middle Earth Corn Maze is a 5-acre maze that provides a unique experience. Middle Earth characters greet you at the entrance of the maze and give you a map with 3 treasures to find. Throughout the journey through the maze, the characters provide entertainment and direction for your journey.
The kids had a great time looking for the treasures. (We found all three!) And when our 3 and 4 year old were finally overcome with exhaustion, we were given a much needed shortcut out. (Nothing quite like carrying two sweaty, tired kids knowing you are hopelessly lost inside a 5-acre corn maze.)
Once we were rescued from the corn maze there were many other fun activities at the Harbes Farm & Orchard in Riverhead. There is a hayride, pedal powered buggies, and goats to feed! Don’t forget to stop by the snack shop for their home made donuts and other treats.

So you went to the orchard and picked close to 800 apples. Now what? Well, we have some awesome tools for you that will help make all of that peeling, coring and slicing so much easier for you! (Affiliate links follow – there is no additional mark up to you – but we may receive a small commission from your sale. Thank you in advance for supporting our site!)
I used to peel mine by hand until I found this beauty. Aside from it being one of my favorite colors, it just makes sense. We go apple picking every year, and I’m always the one stuck peeling 800 apples by hand.
Even though I love my beauty above, sometimes, you just need something simpler. This peeler and corer set does the job nicely. I really love the grips on the handles — they help keep my hands from slipping when I’m pushing down on the corer. This little combo set makes packing apple slices in the kids’ lunch boxes much faster than using a knife – plus you waste less apple this way.
Please tell me you’re going to make slowcooker applesauce with your apples! Or, overnight steel cut oats? How about some slowcooker pork loin with apple slices?! Wait, what? You don’t have a crockpot?! Oh no! My crockpot is the most used appliance in the house and I highly recommend this one.
And last but not least, how about a stylish apron to make you feel like a domestic diva in the kitchen? I heart aprons and this one is just so pretty!
@Alana we usually leave really early so we can avoid the traffic. We are usually headed back out once it start getting crazy!
@Baby by the Sea & @Halley, the goats were crazy. I really think they would eat until they exploded. The big one in the picture was so sweet, he was nuzzling my son’s head like a giant cat!
I’m not really fond of goats but the ones no your shots are so cute! They’re very curious goats.
Ha. That goat looks about one step away from turning the knob on the oat machine. Great pictures.
It looks like a blast! Was there really bad traffic on the way there? I am always afraid it will be bumper to bumper the whole way on Sound Ave.
