Packing Your Kids’ Lunches (Glad® Food Storage Products)

Peck Lake, NY
Catching the last rays of summer vacation…

In our neck of the woods, school doesn’t until after Labor Day, so our kids were still enjoying their summer vacation today – even though most kids have already gone back to school! But while they’ve been playing all day, my sister and I were in full-on “Oh My God – School Starts Tomorrow And Where On Earth Did The Summer Go?” mode. Which is why we’ll be tag-teaming on this post – two heads (or typing hands) are way more efficient than one!

Luckily for us, we were recently asked to try out some Glad® Food Storage Products – and the timing couldn’t be better! Our kids may be going back to school barefoot tomorrow morning, but at least now we’ll have some nifty containers to send their snacks and lunches off to school in.

There are so many benefits to using Glad® Food Storage Products, and I could wax on and on, but if I had to choose only one main reason for using them, it’s because they’re an easy way of recycling. The containers come home each day and we can re-use them Ad nauseam!

Chicken Roll Up, Anyone?

Hi everyone – it’s Daniele sneaking on to my sister’s post! 🙂 Unlike Denine, my main reason for using Glad® Food Storage Products has nothing to do with the environment (although I do recycle!). Instead, it focuses on my two very picky eaters and my need to keep their foods separate AND crunchy!

When my daughter went off to Kindergarten last year, I was kept awake at night wondering if she would be hungry. I couldn’t stop wondering if she would eat enough to get her through her day. So to make sure I was fully prepared, I purchased all of her favorite foods (way) before kindergarten even started.

On the first day of school – I was ready! I was prepared to send her with her sandwich and two snacks each and every day. In the mornings, I would dutifully pack her jelly sandwich and favorite crackers into the same plastic bag, but…to my complete DISTRESS, the crackers would not be touched. Each day, she would come home from school and say, “I just didn’t want them.” Then she would proceed to ask me for “new” crackers for her after school snack. What gives? I couldn’t figure it out.

Finally WEEKS later, as I broke my cardinal rule about snacking from their leftovers, I popped one of her uneaten crackers into my mouth. And immediately spit it out. It was soft and mushy and inedible. Apparently, storing her crackers in the same bag as her sandwich turned them into a crunchless cracker. Ugh.

With Glad® Food Storage Products, I have enough room to separate everything!

Whether it be soggy, crunchless crackers (that’s just gross Daniele!) – or a need to do your part for the environment – Glad® Food Storage Products make life easier. With their sturdy designs, and easy-to-open lids, these containers are perfect for kids and their little fingers!

And as much as I joke around about how wonderful it’ll be to have some peace and quiet in the house tomorrow, I also know that I’ll be a wee bit sad too. For with a quiet house, comes the realization that yet another summer has passed, and the kids have gotten a little bit older, again.

So to keep myself – and the kids – from missing each other too much, I like to sneak special little things into their lunches and snacks. Most of the times, it’s just a little note or silly stick figure, but what’s on it doesn’t matter half as much as the fact that you took the time to stick something “extra” in there.

So this year, as you pack your kids lunches each morning, try to take a second and stick a little note in there too. It’ll make their day – and probably yours too!

I am the WORST drawer in the world, but that’s what makes them smile!

Have a happy and healthy school year!

Hey Aubrey, The lids snap down tight enough that they keep everything in place! I am such a dork – and I can’t draw for squat (Daniele is the artistic sister!) – which is why those drawings are soooo funny. My son is totally mortified, but my daughter loves them. 🙂

We’re trying to figure out back to school packaging right now as well. If they’re not kept upright will the food shift all over without divided compartments? Also, I love your drawing… I did a roundup last year of back-to-school printables but I only remember to print them when I’m not near the computer, thanks for the reminder!
