I’m a frugal-minded comparison shopper and I’m not afraid to admit it. Nothing gives me more pleasure than finding an online coupon or getting Cash Back on a purchase that I was already planning to make. And, if I can get both of those things to happen in one order – I’m doing a major happy dance in my seat!

I just love the satisfaction that comes from saving our family money. To me, it doesn’t even matter if it’s just a buck or two. If I saved some money, I’m happy. I get such a kick out of it that I will often put off making a purchase until I can find an online coupon or Cash Back reward.

But to be honest, it makes my husband a bit bananas because as he likes to say, “He’s a buyer, not a shopper.” This means that if he sees something and wants it, and we can afford it, he just buys it. Plain and simple. He doesn’t care if it’s on sale and he would never use a coupon. He just follows his gut and clicks: BUY.

And although I appreciate his confidence when it comes to purchasing exactly what he wants, it gives me agita. Like stomach aches for days. I mean how could you not want to find a coupon, right??

So, to make me stress less, I’ve recently introduced him to the glorious world of web browser extensions that search for coupon codes and give us money back. This, my friends, is the key to a successful marriage between a shopper and a buyer. Trust me!

But just in case you don’t know what a web browser extension is it’s just a fancy word for a little button that typically lives in the upper right corner of your toolbar. These extensions are easy to install and the ones I use are FREE. Plus, I try to stick with ones that aren’t too annoying. I don’t want pop-ups popping up all over the place; I just want the extension to work its magic at checkout.

So, now I bet you want to know which ones I use the most, right? Well, I’m happy to share that information with you along with why I love using them.

Earn Money While You Shop Online With My Favorite Web Browser Extensions

1.) Honey

Honey is the first web browser extension that I ever installed, so I have a lot of love for it. It was my introduction into the world of saving money online and it showed me that I didn’t have to spend hours searching for online coupons anymore. Honey just does it for me at lightning fast speeds.

Even though I originally downloaded it for the coupon searching feature, I was even more excited when I found out that they give you Cash Back whenever you shop at one of their participating stores. There are over 3,700 stores to choose from, and as part of the Honey Gold Rewards Program, you’ll earn a percentage back in “Gold” whenever you place an order. Once you’ve  accumulated 1000 Gold, you can redeem your Honey Gold via a $10 gift card to Amazon, Walmart, Sears, Groupon, Nordstrom, Sephora, Target, eBay, and a ton of other places!

2.) Ebates

Ebates works a lot like Honey does. But I find that sometimes, they have better deals.

The biggest difference is that Ebates is set up as a shopping portal with all of their participating stores on their site. You can opt to start your shopping trip directly on the Ebates site or activate the extension on your own. It’s really up to you. They also have a rotating selection of Double Cash Back Stores, which let you earn twice the cash back, which is pretty sweet!

In terms of earning Cash Back, it’s as easy as 1-2-3. Start your shopping trip on their site or on your own. If you’re on their site, you’ll see a pop-up confirmation letting you know that you’re ready to shop and earn Cash Back at that store. If you’re flying solo, just activate the extension on your own. The benefit of shopping via their website is that it tracks it for you. If you’re doing it on your own, you’ll know it’s working because the Ebates extension changes color. It’s red if it’s not activated and green if it is. It’s pretty easy.

Once the store confirms that you made the purchase, Ebates puts the earned money into your account. Then, every three months, they send you the Cash Back you’ve earned, in a Big Fat Check or via PayPal. I get the check because I like to show it to my husband. 😉

P.S. They recently launched a new “In Store” feature too where you can use their money-saving coupons in select retail stores. You have to link a credit card to the app and then it keeps track of your purchase. I’m not sure how I feel about this option, but if you’re not a Nervous Nelly like me, give it a whirl!

3.) Cently

Cently is a new web browser extension for me and I don’t have a lot to report about it…yet. I downloaded it during the holidays because I wanted to purchase something that Honey and Ebates didn’t have coupons for or Cash Back on.

I did a little online search and came across Cently, which used to be  Coupons at Checkout, but they rebranded. Since it had a super cute dog logo and solid reviews on the app store, I decided to give it a try. I did save money, so I’m keeping it for now.

Like Honey, it searches the web for coupons and tries to apply them automatically to your cart. I’ve heard a rumor that it can also stack coupons, but I haven’t been able to try it yet. Not every vendor allows stackable coupons, but some do. As soon as I shop from a vendor that allows them, I’m going to see if this works!

According to their website, Cently works in tandem with CouponFollow’s “robust database of coupon codes” and supports over 2,000 top e-commerce websites.

Important To Know

Although I have all three of these web browser extensions installed on my computer, you can only pick ONE extension (i.e. Honey or Ebates; Cently doesn’t do Cash Back) to receive your Cash Back rewards from, so make sure you check both options to see who has the better reward before you place your final order.

Did I miss a web browser extension that helps you save money? If so, let me know below or on our Facebook page! We love hearing from you!
