Recently, we vacationed in Disney World with our three boys and we had such a blast that I wanted to share my opinions about which rides are the best attractions at Animal Kingdom for young children and toddlers.

As our children get older, we now have the luxury of taking day trips to almost any theme park in Florida. Like most parents, we go to create memories, unwind from our busy schedules, and of course, spend time together.

Recently, we vacationed in Disney World with our three boys. And, I must admit, I wasn’t sure if my kids would enjoy Animal Kingdom. I mean I knew they would be excited to be “in” Disney World’s Animal Kingdom, but whenever we the zoo many of the animals aren’t visible due to the heat. And, if you are lucky enough to spot a cool creature, they’re usually napping. So, I honestly didn’t know what their reactions would be.

Let’s just say – I had NO reason to worry. The entire theme park just blew my mind! Most of the park is covered by enormous trees and tunnels, so you really do feel like you’re in the jungle. Plus, all of the trees means that ample shade is available, so you never have to sweat to death in the direct sun, which allowed us to enjoy our time together so much more.

We had such a blast and I wanted to share my opinions about which rides are the best attractions at Animal Kingdom. Although this isn’t a comprehensive list of Animal Kingdom attractions, it is a list of our family’s favorite ones that are geared for young children and toddlers.

Best Attractions At Animal Kingdom For Children

Wilderness Explorers

Upon entering the Wilderness Explorers, visitors are greeted by scouts recruiting members for their Wilderness Explorer team. My two oldest boys (and my husband!) couldn’t wait to join. After reciting their Wilderness Scout promise, cawing like a bird, and roaring like a lion, each of them was awarded a guidebook, map, and scout sticker.

Your little scouts can earn badges by stopping at thirty-one different locations over the park’s seven-themed areas. Each interaction earned them a new badge, which they quickly placed in their guidebook. At each location, the kids learned something new. They were taught about botany, African Culture, how to say “hello” in Taiwanese, and much more. This scavenger hunt was not only educational but kept everyone’s spirits high throughout the whole day and evening.

DinoLand U.S.A

I definitely had the most fun in DinoLand! It’s geared towards young children and reminded me of an old-school carnival with its flashing lights, upbeat music, and gigantic dinosaurs. This section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom provides families with tons of dinosaur games to play, silly spots to take pictures at, and a multi-level playground at the “Boneyard.” Even my youngest loved driving the baby dinosaur around in circles while using the controls to make our seats go higher and lower.

We also enjoyed watching Finding Nemo – The Musical. It was a great way for us to take a break and watch an outstanding show in air conditioning. (Need I say more?) The brilliant performers and amazing animatronics make you feel as if you’re really a part of the show. Make sure you stay until the end to see the magical finale of bubbles.

Kilimanjaro Safaris

Disney created this incredible attraction to provide guests with a way to see animals up close and personal. From the moment you climb into the big, rugged utility vehicle and start driving into the Savanna, the scenery makes you feel as if you’ve truly stepped right into the heart of Africa.

We couldn’t believe our eyes as giraffes walked in front of the vehicle, elephants bathed themselves, and lions roared in the background. My two-year-old drowned out most of the jungle sounds by screaming and waving, “Hi!” to every exotic animal we saw. I also cannot say enough about our guide! He took his time and stopped often to let everyone take pictures.

It can get pretty hot walking around Disney’s Animal Kingdom, especially with little kids. So, we took advantage of all of the air-conditioned shows that we could. After this ride, we saw The Festival of the Lion King and I haven’t stopped raving about it since! Located in Africa near the Safari, this show uses acrobats, puppetry, and of course, phenomenal singing.
