Now that school is back in session, I am taking some time to do all of the chores that I never seem to find time for whenever the kiddos are home. The biggest chore involves cleaning out our linen closet — a task that involves taking everything, and I mean everything, out of the closet and then putting it all back together piece by piece.
I’m a bit of a neatnick when it comes to our linen closet. I like to see everything neatly lined up and stored into their proper places. Nothing makes me twitch more than seeing towels scrunched up and shoved onto shelves, or my daughter’s nail polish randomly tossed all over the closet, or my son’s fish supplies just dumped onto the floor. I like opening the door without having to fear that something is going to topple off of a shelf and hit me smack dab in the face.
So it was with much glee that I tore through my linen closet the other day straightening everything up and making sure that none of the products we love have expired. It’s also a perfect time to make sure that our medical supplies are well stocked just in case anyone comes home with a case of the nasties.
Over the years, the contents of our linen closet have changed drastically, but it’s all for the better. I love knowing that our family is committed to making healthier choices all around and that our kids understand the importance of choosing safer products for our family.
One of the biggest switches that we’ve made over the years is that we no longer purchase any oral hygiene products that contain artificial colors or flavors. Our kids are pretty sensitive to food dye, so we try to avoid it at all costs. And, I mean really, when it comes to toothpaste does it really need to have artificial colors? It’s going in your mouth and cleaning your teeth. So, after much experimenting with different brands, we made the switch to Tom’s of Maine®.
We’ve been using their oral hygiene products for several years now and have been really satisfied with their products. Our youngest is a huge fan of their Silly Strawberry® Anticavity Toothpaste whereas our son has moved on to my husband’s favorite, the Simply White® Clean Mint Cavity Protection Toothpaste. However, I have super sensitive teeth, so I opt for their Maximum Strength Sensitive Toothpaste. I love that they have a toothpaste that suits the needs of every member of our family! Our children have also added their Wicked Fresh!™ Mouthwash to their oral care routine – although they only like the Peppermint Wave variety. I just like that their teeth are clean and their breath is minty fresh!
However, our love for Tom’s goes well beyond their oral hygiene products. Our children also have very sensitive skin and after trying numerous brands of soap on them over the years, we finally decided to try Tom’s soap varieties this past winter. I cannot tell you how excited we are that our children no longer leave the shower or bath with a massive case of the itchy scratchies! Seriously, I stand behind their soap 100%. We mostly use their Natural Beauty Bar Daily Moisture with olive oil and natural vitamin E because it leaves their skin super soft and smooth. However, whenever our kids are a bit rilied up before bedtime, I opt for the Natural Beauty Bar Relaxing with calming lavender — because who doesn’t love the scent of lavender? And if there skin just happens to flare up, we switch over to their Natural Beauty Bar Sensitive because it’s a hypoallergenic unscented bar soap made with soothing chamomile. But to be perfectly honest, my kids like the lavender the best.
I would be remiss if I didn’t also mention that our kids are pretty big fans of Tom’s deodorant too. Now that they are both school-aged, the topic of “stinky pits” is a hot one and since I don’t want them using anything caustic on their little armpits, I only let them use Tom’s Long Lasting Deodorant. I took them to the store and let them pick their own scent and was quite amused by their choices. My son only uses Maine Woodspice because “it smells like Dad” whereas my daughter loves the Honeysuckle Rose. She used to use Fresh Apricot, but she said it smelled “too sweet” – so we switched.
Anyways, it’s very rare that my sister and I will promote a product straight on without offering you a craft, recipe or tutorial to go along with it, but when we have a brand that we truly stand behind 100%, we want you to know it. Tom’s of Maine® products do not contain artificial colors, flavors, fragrances, preservatives, animal ingredients or animal testing. You can learn more about their ingredients, including its purpose and source, by visiting www.tomsofmaine.com.
If you haven’t tried their products yet, but are looking for a more natural and affordable alternative for your family, give them a whirl. I will not have anything to do with Walmart so it is nice to be able to shop at Amazon. My question is are your products free from animal testing?

I love this products.
I’ve been getting more and more conscious about the products I purchase, especially things like toothpaste that is easy to consume. I’m definitely going to check out Tom’s!
I totally agree with you – Tom’s of Maine is a company that my family has been using for years, especially the oral hygiene products. My kids have actually been using the mint toothpastes since they were toddlers. It’s the only mint that wasn’t “too spicy” for them. #client
