I have been begging my husband to take me camping for twelve years now. Every spring, I ask him if he thinks this will be the year that we go and he simply shakes his head. Unfortunately, for me, my beloved husband has no interest in camping. So, I had pretty much given up on the idea, until my friend, Laura, invited us to stay with her and her husband, Greg, at their house on Peck Lake.
Now camping to me means staying in a tent and roughing it; but not so much for Brennan. Camping to him is staying in an awesome lake house with all of the amenities at his fingertips. Tomato, Tomahto? Perhaps, but I knew that this was a step in the right direction, so I happily said yes!
Plus, this invitation couldn’t have been any more enticing. Laura and Greg have two guest bedrooms; they’re awesome cooks; they have a dog; and, Peck Lake was holding its first triathlon! What more could we ask for?
It was incredibly special that Tyler and Abbey were able to see their Dad compete: they were so excited! Even Laura and Greg got into it – Laura volunteered as a timer, and Greg sat at the edge of his driveway ringing his cow bell for each and every triathlete that ran by their house!
And, not only did Brennan compete in Peck Lake’s first triathlon, but he placed second in his age group, seventeenth overall, and first in the swim!
We had the most fun:
…playing in the sand…
…relaxing…
…paddling out to the buoy with Mommy…
…having super-soaker wars with Uncle Greg…
…doing air tosses with Daddy…
…kayaking with Auntie Wawa…
…and hanging with DeeDee…
Luckily for us, what started out as an impromptu invitation turned into one glorious, fun-filled weekend: a weekend that we’ll reminisce about for many years to come.
Thanks Auntie Wawa & Uncle Greg!
