10 Easy-To-Do Crafts With Your Kids This Summer

IMG_0229

Now that school is out and summer is here, my kids are tickled pink (and blue), but as for me, I’m nervous as can be. With all of the reports about children losing up to 3 months worth of learning over the summer, and teachers not being able to use September as a “refresher” month any more, I’m eager to make sure that my kids stay focused and enjoy their summer vacation.

This summer, we are blessed that we have a lovely babysitter to watch our children during the two days a week that I am unable to be at home with them. And to be honest, we really lucked out — our new sitter is everything we could hope for. She teaches religion classes at one of the nearby schools, she is CPR-certified, she is very close to her family, she understands sibling dynamics, she is outdoorsy, and she is tied to our community.

Now this list of attributes may sound ridiculous to some, but I spend hours stressing over who will be influencing my children’s decisions while I am away – and I want someone whom I trust completely to be with them when I am unable to be.

However, even though our babysitter is really fantastic, I like to leave her a “Schedule of Events” to use as a guide throughout the day. This list is not meant to be followed to a T, but as all parents know, kiddie breakdowns are an inevitable part of our days, so this list serves as a guide in case things get dicey while I’m away. In addition to “Mommy School”, I also include ample time for outdoor play, inside free play, reading and lots of crafting with our kids.

As we mentioned in our interview for the Moms Roundtable with Maria Bailey, Daniele and I each keep bags of craft supplies in our mudrooms, and during the winter months, we regularly dip into the supplies to get our crafting on. However, with summer in full gear, you can find many neat crafting supplies right in your very own backyard!

So, if you find yourself with a sitter this summer, or are just looking for somethign fun to do with your kids, don’t fret. We have loads of easy-to-do kids crafts that will keep your little ones happy and stimulated throughout the lazy summer days.
