The Christmas Pickle Tradition

The Christmas Pickle Tradition is a lovely book that acts as a gentle reminder to children that Christmas is not about getting — it’s really about giving.
The Christmas Pickle Tradition is a lovely book that acts as a gentle reminder to children that Christmas is not about getting -- it's really about giving.

One of the things that I love about Christmas is that each family has their own traditions that go along with counting down to the big day. Whether you’re an Elf on the Shelf lover or hater, or you prefer keep things more low key, your family is bound to have its own traditions that you all look forward to year after year.

A few years back, I was chatting with my sister-in-law and she was telling me about this wacky tradition that her family used to have. It had something to do with a pickle being hidden in a tree. I remember thinking, “Wow! I’ve never heard of this before!” Apparently, in her family, they hide a green pickle ornament on the tree and the kids have to find it first thing on Christmas morning. It was really cute and fun.

We have yet to implement the pickle tradition in our home because our kids are so incredibly competitive right now, but I’ve always thought it would be a lovely idea. So when my friend, Jane Simons, reached out to me about a new venture that she had embarked on with some friends of hers, I was really excited to share it with all of you. Jane joined forces with Tammy Dwyer and Melinda Engel at The Christmas Pickle Tradition, LLC, and they just released a beautiful gift set featuring the lovely Christmas Pickle Tradition book along with a pickle ornament, and an annual pickle finder all packaged up in a ready-to-gift box.

We received our gift set a few weeks ago and we couldn’t be happier with the product. The book is full of colorful illustrations and a delightful story that will enchant readers of all ages. The main character is a young elf who is a bit misguided about Christmas is all about. In the beginning, he, like many children, believe that the holiday is all about getting what you want from others. Through it’s sweet narrative, The Christmas Pickle Tradition acts as a gentle reminder to children that Christmas is not about getting — it’s really about giving.

This story resonates with our family values because we always encourage our children to focus on the true meaning of Christmas: family, togetherness, love and kindness. We know that your family will love this book as much as ours did, so sit back, relax and your enjoy this tale over some mugs of hot chocolate with your loved ones – and let us know if it’s a new tradition that you’ll be adding to your own home.

Happy Holidays,

Denine & Daniele

We do – we have a green pickle and then we bought a clear pickle so we can hide it better.

I’ll be hiding it our home this year. But for us, the child to find it first gets the first Hanukkah present…we love creating our own traditions!
