This year, National Learn to Swim Day is May 20th. To celebrate, we’ll be hosting a pool party to try out our new Swimways Baby Spring Float with Canopy! This post was sponsored by SwimWays as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central. All opinions expressed in my post are my own.
I grew up in New York as the fourth of five children. This means I usually received the short end of the stick when it came to learning how to do things. It also didn’t help that I was a scaredy cat especially when it came to swimming.
All it took was one big wave crashing down over my head in the ocean to make me never want to swim again. So while my brothers and sisters would all be playing Marco Polo in the pool, I was grasped onto the edge for dear life hoping that I wouldn’t slip in or be “it.” Every time I was tagged, I’d end up hating it and going inside to play with dolls.
When I was in middle school, we moved to Florida and only then did I learn how to swim. I simply couldn’t get by with not knowing how to swim anymore. Looking back, it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Well, that and getting married and having kids! 😉
Now that I’m a Mom with kids of my own, I not only want them to experience the enjoyment of canon balls and underwater tag at a young age, but I also want them to have the self-confidence in their abilities should they panic or need to help someone else.
As comfortable as my husband and I are in the water, I have still made sure that each child of ours has received swimming lessons. We are very lucky that we have an incredible swim instructor for the boys. I just feel better knowing that they have all learned the necessary skills to keep them safe like floating, taking deep breaths, learning their strokes, and knowing what to do if they fall in.
With that said, our boys are good swimmers. But sometimes, we need an extra hand with our youngest. He loves to keep up with his big brothers, but sometimes, he just needs to take a rest. Unfortunately, he’s impossible to get out of the pool if his brothers are still n it. This is where a pool float is handy, but not all pool floats are the same. If I’m going to put my child in one, I want to make sure it’s a high-quality product that will help me keep them afloat with me close by.
The SwimWays Baby Spring Float with Canopy
Having tried just about every product on the market, I am in love with our SwimWays Baby Spring Float with Canopy. I really think it’s one of the best products on the market right now. For one, I’m in love with how well it folds up. There isn’t a week that goes by where we don’t venture over to the community pool and I love how easy it is to unfold our float. If you’re a parent, you know how annoying it can be to lug a ton of floats around or carry them across the hot sand or pool deck. Plus, this fits perfectly in my beach bag, so I can keep my arms free while I hold my one-year-old on my hip!
I also love the adjustable sun shade canopy. It easily detaches and provides the perfect amount of UPF 50+ coverage for your child. No one wants a cranky, sunburned baby in the pool!
Having this super lightweight float is not only ideal, but it can help prevent drownings. I once read that about 350 children under the age of five drown each year. It’s heartbreaking, scary, and can happen to any of our own. So, if we can teach kids to love the water and feel confident, they’re less likely to panic.
The SwimWays Baby Spring Float Sun Canopy allows babies and toddlers to get used to the water by splashing, kicking, and having fun. The netting around the patented inner spring enables your child to still dunk their hands and arms in the water so they can get used to being submerged, in a secure manner. It can also be used to play with pool toys! The float supports young children (9 – 24 months) and the sturdiness of this float permits a safe day for everyone! It can be purchased at most stores, especially Target! (Hooray! Now I have another reason to go to Target!)
National Learn to Swim Day
In 2012, SwimWays started National Learn to Swim Day. Every year, it is held on the third Saturday of May. This year, National Learn to Swim Day is May 20th.
SwimWays is dedicated to educating parents and children about water safety and the importance and benefits of learning to swim. As a leader in helping children learn to swim and promoting water safety, SwimWays encourages parents and caregivers nationwide to celebrate in their own way.
So as pools and beaches begin to open across America, we want to help spread the word about staying attentive and loving the water! To help celebrate this important day, we’ll be hosting a pool party in May! We’re inviting our friends and their children over to try out our Baby Spring Float, learn about the swimming skills our children have acquired through private lessons, and have a water filled day. By keeping people informed, we can help save lives!
