Apple Pie for Ava

This Apple Pie Recipe For Kids was made for my daughter who decided it “looked yucky” and wouldn’t eat it. May the parenting force be with you always.  Apple Pie
My daughter loves apples. The other day we went food shopping and I picked up one of those big sacks of apples. She was very excited to see all the apples. Soon she started telling me all about the big apple pie we were making.

I was really confused. What apple pie? When did I say anything about an apple pie recipe for kids??

As we arrived home she started telling my husband and son about this big apple pie. They were all so excited. All of a sudden everyone was talking about this apple pie recipe for kids! (What apple pie?!)

I started to panic. I love to cook, I don’t love to bake. But I didn’t have a choice. How could I rain on their apple pie parade? I decided to give it a shot.

It is in the oven right now, I am praying it doesn’t explode.

APPLE PIE RECIPE FOR KIDS

Modified from Fanny Farmer’s Apple Pie Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 Frozen Pie Crusts (I used Pillsbury)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons flour
  • 8 tart apples
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Directions:

Step 1: Peel, core and cut apples into chunks.

Apple Pie
Step 2: Mix sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and flour together. Add apples and coat thoroughly.

Apple Pie
Step 3: Pour apples into pie crust. Dot with butter.

Apple pie
Step 4: Cut edge away from second pie crust and place on top. (I took the scraps and patched any holes I made when removing it from the pie pan.) Cut two slits in top.

Pillsbury Pie Crust
Step 5: Bake at 350 degrees for 60 minutes.

Apple pie

For the record, Ava didn’t eat the apple pie. She told me it looked yucky and asked for a chocolate chip cookie instead.

Thanks for Reading!
Daniele

Actually…it didn’t come out in one piece. That whipped cream is on it for a reason!
