Why buy Valentine’s Day decorations when your kids can make them at home? These Pipe Cleaner Hearts make the most adorable diy heart garland!
When it comes to holiday decorations, I rarely if ever buy my decorations. My favorite decorations are the ones that my kids bring home from school (which promptly get hung up in our kitchen). I also love sitting my kids down and rummaging through our craft bins to see what we can find. There isn’t much rhyme or reason in our crafting. We pretty much dump everything out of the box and see who come up with an idea.
With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I picked up a few packages of assorted red pipe cleaners knowing my kids would find something fun to do with them. We spread the pipe cleaners out on the floor to see how many different reds we had. As I was sorting them into piles, my daughter immediately started bending one into a heart shape. I followed her lead and soon we found ourselves surrounded by a big pile of hearts.
We sat together talking about the snow, school and whether the groundhog would see his shadow until we ran out. I was amazed at how fast the time passed and how many hearts we had made as we sat together and talked. She told me that she wanted to make a big banner out of it. I thought that would be the perfect way to use our hearts. So we snipped off little pieces of pipe cleaner and tied the hearts together.
This pipe cleaner craft is the perfect activity to do on a snowy afternoon when the kids are shot from playing all day. It doesn’t take much planning or materials to put together. You can let your kids take the lead, maybe they want multi-colored circles or a garland of solid colored stars. The options are endless, all you need is a lot of imagination and a bunch of pipe cleaners!
